Seed Systems Development

Strengthening the supply chain for improved, certified seeds through training, quality assurance, and market linkages for smallholder seed producers.

Access to quality seeds is the most fundamental requirement for improved farm productivity. AFPI's Seed Systems program builds the entire seed value chain — from breeder seed production through certified seed distribution to farmers.

We train community seed producers, establish seed quality testing capacity, link seed businesses to markets, and advocate for enabling policy environments for seed system development. Our partnerships with AfricaRice, NCRI, and IITA ensure access to elite improved varieties.

The initiative has facilitated training workshops at IITA for rice seed production technologies, including the APPEALS project training and the Ekiti State Youth and Women Entrepreneurs workshop held at the Cappa Bar Hall, IITA, Ibadan.
