The Agriculture and Food Production Initiative (AFPI) and AfricaRice have successfully scaled climate-adaptive rice technologies to over 4,000 smallholder farmers in Niger State, Nigeria. The initiative, part of the ongoing AfricaRice Technology Scaling project, has resulted in yield improvements of up to 35% among participating farmers.
The technologies introduced include alternate wetting and drying (AWD) irrigation, improved variety packages (FARO 44, FARO 66), and integrated soil fertility management. Farmers were trained through a combination of farmer field schools and demonstration plots established across the state.
